New York Mets catcher Devin Mesoraco left Sunday night’s game in Los Angeles after taking his at-bat in the top of the fifth due to neck and back stiffness.
After completing his swing on his single to left, Mesoraco seemed to wince. He gingerly trotted to first base, where manager Mickey Callaway met him and Mesoraco left the game.
Jose Reyes pinch-ran for him and Kevin Plawecki, just back from paternity leave, entered the game behind the plate.
Mesoraco, 30, was traded to the Mets in May. He came over from the Reds in the Matt Harvey trade.
Since coming to New York, Mesoraco is slashing .208/.295/.380 with nine homers and 26 RBI in 192 at-bats.
We will keep you posted as more information becomes available.
