It has happened, folks…
At 7:59 PM on Thursday night, during the Subway Series finale at Citi Field, righthander Jacob deGrom stroked a single off Chase Whitley of the Yankees to snap the 0-for-64 hitless streak by Mets pitchers.
The former college shortstop lined one in front of center fielder Jacoby Ellsbury to put runners on first and third.
The Mets fateful greeted him with a standing ovation as he stood at first base, probably unaware of what had just transpired.
Good for him!
In other news, the Mets have extended their scoreless streak to 13 innings at the end of four.

So are you as tired of hearing Gary Cohen give us the blow-by-blow on the futility of Mets pitchers as much as I am?
Or do you enjoy the 3-4 updates per game with every passing at-bat?
Personally, I could live without it, but on a positive note, it seems that it’s really not as bad as one would think.
Cory Derespina of Newsday reports that while they haven’t tallied a hit yet this season, Mets pitchers have hardly been unproductive.
Despite their 0-for-64 showing at the plate there’s this:
There’s more to baseball, however, than batting average, and Mets pitchers have actually done some things well.
– Six walks are tied with the Cardinals for the most in baseball.
– Eight sacrifice hits ranks seventh in MLB.
– Three RBIs is tied for eighth in baseball with the Diamondbacks and Padres.
So while it might be nice to see Jacob deGrom break the slump on Thursday for sake of narrative, he concludes. Another 0-fer may not be the worst thing, either.
