The New York Mets announced that right-handed starter Jacob deGrom will not pitch again in the 2017 season because of gastroenteritis. He was originally scheduled to make his final start of the year on Saturday against the Phillies.

Seth Lugo, originally scheduled to start Sunday, will shift to Saturday.

DeGrom, 29, went 15-10 with a 3.53 ERA, 1.19 WHIP and 3.50 FIP this season. He set career highs with 31 starts, 201.1 innings pitched, 239 strikeouts and 10.7 K/9.

He also had 11 double-digit strikeout games, which is the fourth most in a single season for a Mets pitcher.

Jon Heyman of Fan Rag Sports reported yesterday that the Mets are exploring an extension with the Mets ace.
