It was so exciting to watch the Mets demolish the Milwaukee Brewers by a score of 14-1 on Saturday night.

Last night’s performance was everything that Friday’s performance was not. Great starting pitching, effective relief, crisp defense, and of course an offensive explosion that was a sight for sore eyes.

I think we all needed a game like that after such a tough week for our Amazins.  And by “we” I mean both the team and us fans too. We’re in this thing together.

I was so happy to see Jacob deGrom bounce back and deliver such a spectacular performance after that clunker he tossed in his last start against the Cubs.

Our young right-hander allowed just one late run on five hits and a walk while striking out six over six innings.

“It was a big night,” deGrom said. “Coming off a couple bad starts, I wanted to get out there and put us in a position to win. We played great as a team. Everything came together, the offense, and we pitched well and got the win.”

DeGrom has become almost unbeatable at home. In his last 11 starts at Citi Field dating back to July 8, 2014, he is 9-1 with a 1.32 ERA.

Trying to recapture the magic of last season, deGrom told Kevin Kernan of the New York Post that he reverted back to the basic pitching mechanics he utilized to capture the NL Rookie of the Year Award.

His plan going forward is to keep the ball down, and then, when the time is right, elevating his fastball for the strikeout. That’s what made him so dominant last year and it was great to see all those swings and misses again.

And what a night at the plate for the deGrominator. He went 3-for-3 with one RBI, and became only the second Mets pitcher to ever collect two hits in an inning. The other was Chris Young in 2011.

After his strong offensive showing at the dish, deGrom raised his batting average to .294 for the season! I’m looking at you Kirk Nieuwenhuis

“I was just trying to hit the ball to the middle of the field,” he said. “It was a lot of fun.”

I love this kid. DeGrom is so entertaining to watch and his enthusiasm and energy makes him so easy to root for.

Here’s hoping that Saturday night was the beginning of something special for deGrom and that from here on in we see the kind of dominance we saw so much of last season. LGM.
