Game Notes

The Mets are 10-6 in their last 16 games…New York is 2-2 on its final homestand of the first half…The Mets are 4-5, including 3-3 at home in extra innings this season and 14-14 in one-run decisions (7-7 at home). New York has seven walk-off wins this year, tied for the second-most in the majors with Colorado, Boston and Cincinnati. San Francisco is first with eight walk-off wins.

Jeremy Hefner has posted a 1.80 ERA (six earned runs/30.0 innings) in five starts in June, which was the seventh-lowest mark in the majors during the month. Since May 24, Hefner ranks 11th in the NL with a 2.36 ErA (11 earned runs/42.0 innings).

Josh Satin has reached safely in 12 straight games and has hit in a career-best seven straight after going 3-6 last night. Satin is batting .444 (12-27) during that stretch, which dates back to June
25. He has multi-hit games in three of his last four starts. The three hits last night tied his career-high set on June 28 vs. Washington.

John Buck went 0-for-4 with three strikeouts Monday, and made a base-running gaffe in the bottom of the ninth inning. Buck’s batting average is down to .205, but his playing time will not decline.

Gonzalez Germen will be activated by the Mets before tonight’s game. Germen, a 25-year-old right-hander from the Dominican Republic, is 3-3 with a 5.70 ERA in 34 Pacific Coast League relief appearances this season. In 42 2/3 innings, he has allowed 47 hits and 10 walks while striking out 48. The team will have to make a corresponding move.

Fans are reminded they can continue to vote online at Mets.com through July 4 at 11:59 p.m…The AL and NL teams will be announced at 6:30 p.m. this Saturday on FOX.

Game Preview

Fresh off a win in the 13th last night, the Mets are back at it again tonight for game 2. Yesterday the Mets fell behind very early but were able to scratch back late in the game, push the game into extras and finish off the Diamondbacks thanks to a walk off hit by Brown. Tonight Jeremy Hefner will take the mound for the Amazin’s as he goes up against Patrick Corbin.

Jeremy Hefner is 2-6 over 87.0 innings this year while posting a nice 3.72 ERA. He was on fire in the month of June allowing only 1 ER in each start which led to a 1.80 ERA over 30.0 innings. He is quickly solidifying himself as my favorite good surprise of the 2013 season. In his young career he has never faced the Diamondbacks and the only batter that has an MLB record against him is Prado, who is 0-2.

The Mets bats draw Patrick Corbin who is 9-0 this season with a 2.22 ERA over 109.0 innings of work. He made 6 starts in June pitching 41.1 innings with a 1-0 record (hasn’t won since the first week, hasn’t lost either) while posting a 3.05 ERA. Last year he pitched 3.1 innings against the Mets while allowing 4 ER. The Mets have the following numbers against Corbin:

Young 3-6, 3 2B
Brown 2-5, HR
Buck 1-3
Murphy 2-2
Wright 0-2

Lets Go Mets!
