Jon Morosi of Fox Sports reports that the Arizona Diamondbacks will make a trade or two to acquire a starting pitcher and a catcher with MLB experience before the start of Spring Training.

Morosi says that Arizona GM Dave Stewart is looking to trade from his surplus of outfielders, and there’s not been any mention of moving any of their shortstops since they traded Didi Gregorius to the Yankees last month.

Could they be a landing spot for Dillon Gee? I doubt it. When asked if he had any interest in the Mets’ Gee, Niese and Colon before the Winter Meetings, Stewart fired back, “We don’t have any interest in those kind of guys,” Stewart told the Daily News.

At the time, Stewart said he was looking for “young, controllable pitching, that aren’t making any money right now, who have a chance to grow within our organization.”

Arizona has previously scouted Noah Syndergaard and Travis d’Arnaud, but Sandy Alderson has balked at the notion of trading Syndergaard all offseason, and trading d’Arnaud would leave the Mets without an experienced starting catcher.

The Mets need a shortstop but for now the D’backs don’t seem intent on trading another one until they see what they have in Chris Owings and Nick Ahmed this season.

For those of you who believed there was no chance that Wilmer Flores would be the starting shortstop two months ago, how’s your faith these days?

Only 37 days until pitchers and catchers report.
