The Mets got a solid outing from Jenrry Mejia and first baseman Ike Davis launched two home runs as the Mets pounded the Pittsburgh Pirates by the score of 6-2 tonight at Citi Field. It was the fourth win in a row for the Mets who were coming off a sweep of the Marlins.

Game Highlights

Jenrry Mejia dazzled tonight and earned the first MLB win of his career. Mejia pitched five scoreless innings allowing four hits and two walks while striking out four. It will be interesting to see how Mejia fits into this team next season and in what role. But for now, congrats to Jenrry on notching his first win in the big leagues. The first of many more!

Ike Davis put on a huge power display for the fans, slugging his 29th and 30th home runs of the season and driving in five runs. For Davis it was his third multi-home game of the season and the first 30 homer season of his career. What a great comeback for Ike who came so close to being demoted to the minors after the All Star break. I’m glad they stuck with him and it’s paying big dividends now. This guy can mash ’em with the best of ’em!

David Wright singled, walked and drove in his 85th RBI of the season while scoring two runs. Wright inches even closer and is now just two hits shy of Eddie Kranepool’s franchise-record of 1,418 career hits. Wright-eous!

Daniel Murphy made a couple of web gems at second base tonight and he continues to make strides defensively as noted by Terry Collins yesterday.

Game Ball

Ike Davis went deep twice and in the process became only the third first baseman in franchise history to reach the 30-homer plateau, joining Carlos Delgado (2006 and ’08) and Dave Kingman (1982).

On Deck

The Mets continue their four-game series against the Pirates tomorrow night at Citi Field with rookie Collin McHugh (0-2, 3.86 ERA) also looking for his first MLB win. He will be opposed by Wandy Rodriguez (11-13, 3.76 ERA). Game time is 7:10 PM.

LETS GO METS!
