For the first time since an aborted attempt last August, New York Mets captain David Wright is scheduled to resume his professional baseball career.
As per the Mets, Wright will play five innings at third base for the Advanced-A St. Lucie Mets on Sunday in Clearwater, Florida.

Wright, 35, has been sidelined with a number of debilitating afflictions since June 2016. Most of his injuries and subsequent surgeries (shoulder, back, neck) have stemmed from his May 2015 spinal stenosis diagnosis.
The seven-time National League All-Star ranks first in franchise history in wins above replacement among position players with 50.4 WAR, has the most runs scored (949), hits (1,777), doubles (390), runs batted in (970), and is second in home runs to Darryl Strawberry (242).
David Wright’s journey back to Flushing began on May 31 when he began soft-tossing with Mets trainers. Clearly, he’s made enough progress and feels well enough to take this considerable next step.
