Wright 2.jpegKevin Kernan of the NY Post, spoke with David Wright who is hell bent on stopping the Mets’ consecutive September slides.

“This winter there’s been a desire, a passion to get into the gym as soon as possible and to get back to the cages because just like last offseason, the way the season ends it leaves a bitter taste in your mouth,” Wright said.

“I kind of lost a little bit of aggressiveness last year as far as stealing bases and I want to get back to that,” said Wright, who stole only 15 bases last season after stealing 34 in 2007. “I want to do everything I can to stay healthy and feel strong down the stretch.”

“For me, I took it extremely hard after the ’07 season and I feel we had a better opportunity this year and we didn’t capitalize,” he said. “To make that mistake twice, it really bothers me, and I know I’m going to do everything I can to prevent it from happening again this year.”

David Wright finished second in the NL with a career-high 124 RBIs despite hitting only .243 with runners in scoring position. Even if he can improve that number to .280, it would make such a huge difference.

I think Wright takes too much upon himself. You could actually see him tense up whenever he came to the plate with the tying or winning runs on base. I wish someone would tell him to ease up and be himself.

I have a strong hunch that this is the year that Wright will really bust out and win himself an MVP. I can’t wait for the season to start already!
