David Stearns

The Mets chances of landing David Stearns to be their president of baseball operations have been very slim going back to last offseason when the Brewers denied permission to interview him.

It doesn’t look like that will change anytime soon.

The New York native was giving his end of the season press conference on Friday and was asked about the rumors of him going to another team, Stearns said, “Consistent with how I’ve handled those questions in the past, I think I’ll shy away from any media or external speculation other than to say I’m happy here; my family is happy here. And we’ve got work to do here.”

Stearns is under contract with the Brewers through the 2022 season and there’s been no indication that Milwaukee would even let him interview for the Mets job.

The Mets have already struck out on one of their top choices in former Red Sox and Cubs lead exec Theo Epstein. MMO has been reporting that A’s executive Billy Beane is unlikely to join to the Mets, while other publications insist that he has interest in the job. Other names mentioned in the Mets front office search are Dodgers executives Josh Byrnes and Brandon Gomes, but LA just moved onto the NLCS.
