The New York Mets announced on Wednesday that left-handed pitcher David Peterson had surgery to repair the labrum in his left hip. The team noted the typical recovery time for such an injury is 6-7 months. This means the injury will undoubtedly have Peterson sidelined for the start of the 2024 regular season.

Peterson, 28, went 3-8 with a 5.03 ERA overall this season in 27 appearances (21 starts) over a career-high 111 innings. Though, he did pitch much better in the second half, with a 3.65 ERA in 16 games (10 starts).

Mets president of baseball ops David Stearns said on Tuesday at the GM Meetings that one of the priorities this offseason would be pitching, and that certainly includes a rotation that only has Kodai Senga and José Quintana locked into it right now.
