Mike Puma of the New York Post is reporting that the New York Mets are considering former Met Dave Magadan for their hitting coach vacancy.
The Mets fired hitting coach Pat Roessler earlier this week after one season as the lead hitting coach and two seasons prior to that as the assistant hitting coach. Assistant hitting coach Tom Slater is expected to stay in his role.
Magadan, 56, was hired as the hitting coach of the Arizona Diamondbacks in November of 2015 and is now a free agent after mutually agreeing to part ways last month.
Previous to that, Magadan was the hitting coach for the Texas Rangers for three seasons and held that same role with the Boston Red Sox from 2007 to 2012.
During the his three seasons with Arizona, the team had 10th ranked wRC+ (92) in the National League. The D’Backs slashed .250/.320/.425 during that period and struck out a whopping 23.3% of the time, ranking 12th in the NL.
Magadan played parts of seven seasons with the Mets including being a part of the 1986 World Series Championship team. It was reported on Wednesday that the Mets are expected to show interest in Chili Davis, former Chicago Cubs hitting coach, for their vacancy as well.
