Marc Carig of the Athletic reports that the Mets have interviewed Detroit Tigers’ VP of player development, Dave Littlefield, for their vacant GM position.
Littlefield, 58, is a former league executive as well as the former Senior VP of the Pittsburgh Pirates, which he worked for from 2001 until September 7 of the 2007 season. He was temporarily the team’s GM in that final season, starting on June 11.
The Maine native has worked as a scout for the Chicago Cubs and Detroit Tigers before being promoted to VP of player development in August of 2015. His scouting background certainly falls more in line with Fred Wilpon’s interests for the next GM of the franchise and exhibits the legitimate confusion about what type of executive the team is looking for.
Chaim Bloom, De Jon Watson, Kim Ng, Doug Melvin, and Gary Larocque are all known to be among the candidates for the position at the moment.
