Mickey Callaway told reporters after today’s 10-1 loss to the Houston Astros that the team is going to wait on having Travis d’Arnaud make his Grapefruit League debut.

D’Arnaud, 30, partially tore his UCL in April and had Tommy John Surgery to repair it, missing the remainder of the 2018 season. With that in mind, the team would like to have him do more simulated game work on the backfields before letting him play in a real game, despite the fact he is fully healthy.

The catcher signed a one-year, $3.52 million contract to avoid arbitration this past offseason. He will be a free agent after this season. In the meantime, the former first-round pick will serve as the backup to Wilson Ramos in 2019.
