Even though he now plays for the Mets’ biggest division rival, for once, Daniel Murphy‘s heart may have still been in Queens.

During the fifth inning of the MLB All Star game, there was a brief moment to Stand Up To Cancer, for everyone to remember those suffering from this disease.

All the players, managers, fans and even the broadcasters had a Stand Up To Cancer sign, writing a name of someone they knew who was suffering from it.

Along with Mets manager Terry Collins and third base coach Tim Teufel, Murphy also wrote Mets GM Sandy Alderson on his sign.

Alderson was diagnosed with a treatable form of cancer late last September.

“My family’s been really blessed that we haven’t been affected by cancer as other people,” said Murphy. “It seemed fitting. Sandy got to New York in 2011. I spent five years with him. I hope he’s doing well.”

Alderson has continued to do his part as GM, running the team on a day-to-day basis, traveling regularly and breaking only for treatment sessions.

Murphy signed with the Nationals last December so he hasn’t been able to interact on a daily basis with Alderson.  However, the two did cross paths back in May, when the GM presented Murphy with his NL Championship Ring. Even though Murphy is no longer a Met, their careers and lives will always be intertwined.

“He’s never far from my family’s thoughts and prayers,” said Murphy.
