Granderson Curtis

Mets right fielder Curtis Granderson has been one of the few bright spots recently for the Mets offense. On Friday, he hit his 12th home run which led helped the Mets to a narrow 2-1 win over the Reds at Citi Field.

On Saturday, Granderson stayed hot and doubled in the first and then hit an opposite field home run with two outs in the third inning.

It was the 250th career home run for Curtis who now leads the team with 13 long balls.

Granderson has hit safely in each of his last seven games, going 11-24 (.458) over that stretch. He has seven home runs in June and last night’s homer was Grandy’s 4th in his last 6 games.

“As you can tell, he means a lot,” said Collins. “There was a legitimate question asked yesterday about putting him in the middle of the lineup because of the way he’s been swinging and driving in runs.”

“Unfortunately, we haven’t been swinging and he keeps driving himself in. But what he did tonight is exactly why we have him there.”

Granderson got off to a slow start in the power department this season, but he has since picked it up over the last month and is finally showing the power the Mets expected from him all along.

How long he continues to bat leadoff instead of the middle of the lineup is anybody’s guess, and Collins seems in no rush to change anything.
