The St. Louis Cardinals have hired Mike Maddux to be their next pitching coach according to Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic.

Maddux had been given permission to interview for other jobs when the Washington Nationals decided to not bring manager Dusty Baker back for the 2018 season.

Maddux was the Nationals pitching coach for the past three seasons after spending seven seasons with the Texas Rangers and six with the Milwaukee Brewers.

The Cardinals were in the market for a pitching coach after deciding that Derek Lilliquist would not return to that role after holding it for parts of seven seasons.

Of course the Mets are still in the need of a pitching coach after Dan Warthen was not brought back for 2018.

Giants pitching coach Dave Righetti has been shifted to the front office as a special assistant to the GM.

Cubs made two moves today bringing hitting coach Chili Davis and third base coach Brian Butterfield over from the Boston Red Sox.

With the Mets hiring Mickey Callaway as their new manager the Indians needed a pitching coach and they hired Carl Willis today. Willis was previously with the Red Sox.
