Cricket star Kieran Powell is attempting to make the jump from his sport to baseball this winter. After trying out with the Brewers last week, Powell tried out with the Mets at their Port St. Lucie facilities on Saturday.

Powell has been trying out for teams as an outfielder and according to Elite Sports NY, he has tryouts lined up with the Dodgers, Cubs, Pirates, and a few other teams.

Powell is a 25 year-old left-handed hitter and right-handed thrower. He has played eight seasons with the Leeward Islands team and two seasons with the Antigua Hawksbills. He plays internationally for the West Indies team, which is one of the best teams in the world.

He has been training at the IMG Academy in Florida, where director of baseball Dan Simonds told FOX Sports he likes what he’s seen. “He’s in a very good place right now,” Simmonds said, “if we ran the thing tomorrow I think he’d actually go fairly well…Hitting-wise he’s starting to show some real power swinging the bat, driving the ball from gap to gap…Those are things they’re (the scouts) going to be looking for. They’re going to be watching his skill set. At the end of the day that’s what’s going to sell these guys.”

No word yet on whether he’s willing to accept a one year deal…
