As pessimistic as a Mets fan can be at times (especially at the end of a close game), I am beginning to feel a small sense of hope. The tune of many bogs including one of mine has been whether or not Omar Minaya was going to do something to provide a spark in the Mets clubhouse. I think we all were in agreement that the Mets play prior to the Nats series was more stagnant than a pond in mid August.

I realize that this is old news already, but I have a pretty good feeling that Jeff Conine may be just the acquisition they need. In Conine, the Mets have themselves not only a capable bat and glove of the bench, but also a proven winner. I can’t speak for everyone, but I love to be surrounded by winners. The two World Championship Rings he brings to Shea add a ton of credibility to a team already stacked with winners.(Rickey Henderson, Willie Randolph, El Duque, Moises Alou etc.

Conine had this to say upon being informed of the trade,” You want to be playing for something in September and October. That’s why we put on a uniform, to win, and there’s no better place to win than the New York Mets. I’m happy to be a Met for however much time as I am."

I just have a feeling that an attitude like that, and not to mention his postseason resume (304 (31-for-102) with one home run and eight RBIs in 32 postseason games), will be just the kick in the drawers our Amazins’ need!

Of course I could just be grasping reasons for optimism. Any thoughts?
