The Mets had an absolutely dreadful showing in last night’s contest against Marlins’ right-hander, Jose Urena, who came into the game with a 4.56 ERA.

In 6 1/3 innings, he held the Mets to only three hits and one run. That one run came from a Michael Conforto home run in the sixth inning, who took a 2-0 96 MPH fastball and slapped it over the left-field wall to pull the Mets within one run at the time.

Conforto also recorded the team’s first hit in the fourth inning, which was a double to right field, that the Mets, of course, failed to capitalize on.

However, the 25-year-old was a serious bright spot for the team, and has been for the last three games as he has now homered for the third straight game, which is the first time he has done so in his career so far. The last Met to accomplish that feat was Yoenis Cespedes in 2017, who did so from August 11-14.

In that span, Conforto is also 6-for-14 with six RBI and last night’s double. The outfielder already has five home runs in the month of September which is very impressive when you consider that it’s only September 12 and that number already ties his season-high for any month.

On the year, the outfielder is now hitting .233/.339/.418 with 23 home runs and 63 RBI to give him a .757 OPS and 109 wRC+.

Obviously, that overall stat line is less than what the Mets hoped to get from the outfielder this season, but it was clear for much of the first half that he was still recovering from shoulder surgery that he had last season.

Since the All-Star break, he’s been much more productive as he has a .266/.335/.522 slash line to go along with 13 home runs and 34 RBI in 49 games. He only amassed 11 home runs in 85 first half games.

The Mets will certainly hope that the second-half Michael Conforto is the one they get for the entirety of 2019.
