michael Conforto

Michael Conforto came through again for the Mets during last night’s sweep of the Phillies. He contributed with a RBI single in the 13th inning, and he finished the day going 2-for-7 with a double.

Conforto now has a .273 average on the season to go along with 13 RBI and a .853 OPS in 77-at bats.

It’s really been a remarkable year for the Mets’ rookie, who started the year at Single-A and will likely end it on the postseason roster. He’s absolutely deserved it with how well he’s played, and he keeps making improvements.

Over his last ten games, he is red hot at the plate with a .333 average, two home runs and four doubles.

“You just don’t see that type of jump,” David Wright said before last night’s 9-5 win over the Phillies in 13 innings. “Because you don’t see that type of maturity. You can tell he’s got that confidence, but he’s not cocky. And he’s going to get better and better. He’s the real deal.”

“He’s performed well on the field, he’s fit in the clubhouse, he’s handled the media and public scrutiny,” Alderson said. “One of the things we said at the outset was that we were confident in his approach to hitting. And he stuck with that approach.”  (Dave Lennon, Newsday)

He’s certainly proved all of his doubters wrong who said he wasn’t ready for the majors this year. He’s exceeded all expectations and he looks like he will be a solid player on the team for years to come.
