Bill MaherLast night, the Mets announced that comedian Bill Maher is now a new limited partner with the Mets after purchasing a minority stake in the team.

“I think it’s a great investment,” Maher said. “I think it’s a great team that I’ve been rooting for since they came into existence, which was soon after I came into existence.”

Our senior staff writer, Jim Mancari, covered the game yesterday and took that picture of Maher (on the right) during batting practice.

Maher, who hosts the popular HBO series “Real Time with Bill Maher”, was on the field during all the festivities and wore his Mets cap while smiling and joking with fans and players before the game.

The New York native and lifelong Mets fan even credited himself for ending the Mets no-hitter drought, “Let’s be honest,” he said. “There was no no-hitter for 50 years. I buy in and come to town. Draw your own conclusions.”

I must admit that was a pretty clever line. 😀

Neither the Mets or Maher disclosed what percentage of the team he now owns, but if nothing else this continues to disprove the notion that the Mets are not an attractive investment or that they are in financial ruin like some would have you believe.
