What’s happening this season between the Mets and the Nationals is getting out of hand. The division leading Nats have absolutely abused the Mets at Citi Field this year and that continued last night. After the Nats hit two home runs, Colon was ejected for retaliating against Ian Desmond and Jayson Werth.

After the game, Colon couldn’t understand why he was ejected. Through an interpreter, Colon had this to say to ESPN’s Adam Rubin:

“I was surprised, because … I hit Desmond after the home run and nothing happened. That was a two-seam fastball that moved inside to him. I was trying to pitch him inside.”

The reason this seems a bit crazy is because of Colon’s impeccable control. In 182.2 innings this year, he’s walked just 25 batters. He has become a master of taking a little off and putting a little on, as he dances through the lineup throwing strikes.

Nationals Manager Matt Williams summed it up pretty well. “I don’t have an opinion one way or the other” he said when asked if Colon was trying to hit Werth. “All I know is that he has exceptional control…” (Patrick Reddington, SB Nation).

Personally I don’t mind a little juice in this rivalry. The Mets will have to find ways to beat this team at Citi Field next season and if you read the forecast correctly, these two teams could be battling for NL East titles for years to come. Colon added a little fire to the rivalry last night and if you ask me, he knew exactly what he was doing.
