MLB: Cincinnati Reds at New York Mets

According to Mets manager Terry Collins, rookie left-hander Steven Matz will be the starting pitcher in Game 4 of the NLDS on Tuesday at Citi Field.

Matz dealt with some tightness behind his right shoulder at the end of the regular season due to sleeping awkwardly one night. He will be making his first start since Sept. 24. The Long Island native went 4-0 this season with a 2.27 ERA in six starts for the Mets.

Speaking to reporters at Citi Field on Sunday, Collins made the move official after much speculation the Jacob deGrom would start Game 4 on three-days rest. Instead, deGrom will start in Game 5 if necessary.

DeGrom sparkled for the Mets in Game 1, besting Dodgers ace Clayton Kershaw in an epic pitching duel. He tossed seven shutout innings and struck out 13 batters in the process.

Another item of note came from Matt Harvey, who said he would “love to” pitch in relief in Game 5 if the Mets turned to him.
