Mets starting pitcher Jonathon Niese 2

February 27

Earlier today, Adam Rubin of ESPN New York and Mike Puma of the Post, reported that an MRI performed on Jon Niese in New York revealed no damage in his left shoulder.

“His shoulder is “perfect” and he is expected to resume throwing upon return to camp.”

Terry Collins confirmed the report a short while ago and said:

“There’s no shoulder problems at all. He’s got some weakness in his scapula area that’s minor. They think in a few days he’ll be back and be ready to go.”

“So we get him back on the mound as soon as we can. So it was very, very good news. Shoulder is actually very, very good.”

Finally, some positive news.

ESPN’s Adam Rubin recently tweeted that Jon Niese is to receive an MRI for shoulder pain. He later added that Niese would be returning to New York for the test, a decision that was made around noon today.

It’s precautionary, according to Terry Collins, who also revealed that Niese has been feeling pain in his triceps since early in camp.

Niese was scheduled to start to start the season opener against the Washington Nationals on March 31. He has had a history with arm injuries, and while no further details have been released, he did suffer from a partial rotator cuff tear last year that kept him out for part of the season. Collins said this soreness is different and unrelated to that.

Fingers crossed…
