Terry Collins is sitting in a good spot these days. He no longer has to look at a lineup peppered with Triple-A and Quad-A players and wonder how he was going to score some late runs with his team down by one or two.

He also doesn’t have to cringe when looking at his bench for a pinch hitter and having to play Russian Roulette with a cast that was batting a combined .172  for the season.

After the New York Mets rallied in the seventh inning to defeat the Colorado Rockies on Monday night by a score of 4-2, Collins told reporters:

“It was one of those games that probably a year ago we don’t win that game. But the team, with what they’re doing right now, the confidence that they have, tonight we win those kind of games.”

In a very funny moment during the post game press conference, Collins was then asked if he would’ve won this game three weeks ago. He smiled and said he wasn’t going to answer that question.

After losing a disappointing series against the Tampa Bay Rays, the Mets got off to a great start on this homestand with a nice comeback victory.

They did a lot of the things we saw way back in April during that 11 game winning streak. Back then, the Mets would take full advantage of any mistakes by the opposition. And that’s exactly what happened last night at Citi Field.

But what was also apparent was how good many of the at-bats were whether they resulted in a hit or not. Daniel Murphy, who delivered the big hit explains.

“It was a good at-bat after good at-bat,” Murphy said of the Mets’ seventh inning. “Michael works a walk, Travis gets our second hit of the game, Grandy puts a great at-bat on there. There were some really good at-bats right there. Fortunately I was able to dribble one through the hole.”

Murphy singled and drove in two runs in that seventh inning to give the Mets the lead. He has hit safely in seven straight games dating to August 2 and is batting .414 (12-29) with three doubles, two home runs and six RBI during the streak.

But getting back to Terry Collins’ point, this team is so starkly different than what we’ve seen for most of the season. It’s amazing how we went from such really bad options on offense, to a team with so many great options and by the way, here comes David Wright.
