Its no wonder with attendance being down more than 6,000 per game over last year, that the Mets have decided to entice their fans by offering tours of their new world-class home.
I went on a tour of Shea Stadium many years ago, and I must admit, it was a really fun time. Being able to go behind the scenes of the daily baseball operations, and to go where no fan has gone before, was something not many fans could say they’ve experienced.
A few weeks ago, Mets.com did a survey asking the fans which sites and features they’d like to tour at Citi Field, and how much they’d be willing to pay to do so. The results have been calculated and the tours are officially available to the public.
Highlights of the tour include the clubhouse, field & dugout, production area (scoreboard control), press box, suite level (Sterling & Empire), and the Hall of Fame & Museum. All tours begin and end in the Jackie Robinson Rotunda and are conducted rain or shine. Tours depart approximately every 30 minutes and will last approximately one hour. All tours are wheelchair and stroller accessible, and wheelchairs are available upon request. Cameras are permitted and complimentary parking in Lot G on 126th Street is available to patrons.
Tickets are $10 for adults and $7 for children 12 and under and seniors 60 and over. Those in the active duty military receive complimentary admission. Groups of ten or more receive discounted admission, with adult tickets priced at $8 and children and seniors tickets priced at $5.
Tours begin Saturday, May 29th, and are currently held on the weekends only for individuals, Thursdays and Fridays for groups. Tours run from 11 am to 2 pm.
