According to Joel Sherman of the New York Post, former Atlanta Braves pitching coach Chuck Hernandez has emerged as a candidate for the New York Mets bullpen coach vacancy.
Hernandez, 58, has spent the last two seasons as the Braves pitching coach. During that time, the Braves staff had a 4.23 ERA (tied for 8th in NL) and 1.35 WHIP (tied for 9th in NL).
Before the Braves, Hernandez worked as a pitching coach for the Angels, Rays, Tigers and Marlins. He worked as the Indians bullpen coach in 2009. The lefty also pitched in parts of five minor league seasons after being a first round pick of the Yankees in 1979.
The Mets are seeking a replacement for long-time bullpen coach Ricky Bones, he had been with the Mets since 2012 before being let go earlier this offseason.
