According to the New York Post’s Mike Puma, Mets hitting coach Chili Davis has every intention to join the team in person for the 2021 season.

The 60-year-old hitting coach had an undisclosed underlying condition that forced him to make the decision to stay home for the 2020 season, which Davis called the decision “tough to make” but believed it was the correct one at the time.

Davis is confident that he can be with the team during the 2021 season, “I am planning on being there, and hopefully when we get there, we can all get vaccinated.”

Players have had nothing but high praise for the former major leaguer since he joined the team for the 2019 season, and although he was not with the team in person for the shortened 2020 season, the Mets were one of the best offensive teams in the league.

During Davis’s time working from home, he was focused on scouting opposing pitchers, as well as meeting with players over zoom to break down film.
