The New York Mets announced that Yoenis Cespedes underwent surgery today to remove the calcifications in his left heel.
Cespedes, 33, underwent decalcification surgery on his right heel on August 1. He is unlikely to start running again until March.
After hitting the disabled list with a right hip flexor strain in May, the 33-year-old was activated on July 20 against the Yankees. After leaving the game early, Cespedes spent a few days weighing his options and was then placed on the DL again, with twin heel calcifications.
Cespedes has a .282/.346/.543 slash line with 74 home runs and 201 runs batted in through 308 games with the Mets but has played in just 120 games since the start of the 2017 season.
The left fielder is under contract with the Mets through the 2020 season with $58.5 million left on his contract.
