Congratulations to Yoenis Cespedes, Noah Syndergaard, and Jeurys Familia who will represent the New York Mets during the 2016 All-Star Game on July 12 at Petco Park in San Diego.
Cespedes was elected through fan voting and will start in in left field, while Syndergaard and Familia were named as reserves via player balloting.
Terry Collins will will manage the NL squad and will take his entire coaching staff to San Diego, including hitting coach Kevin Long, assistant hitting coach Pat Roessler, third base coach Tim Teufel, bench coach Dick Scott and pitching coach Dan Warthen.
For Cespedes it will be his second All-Star Game appearance, while Syndergaard and Familia make the first of what will hopefully be many All Star appearances.
Cespedes participated in and won the Home Run Derby in both 2013 (as a non-All-Star) and ’14, but will not participate this year so he could rest his nagging sore wrist. He is hitting .302 this season with a .368 OBP, .579 SLG, 20 home runs, 15 doubles, and 50 RBIs.
Syndergaard is 9-3 and has posted a 2.41 ERA and 1.06 WHIP in his first full season in the major leagues. The hard-throwing righty has struck out 123 batters while walking just 15 in 101 innings pitched.
Familia has converted an MLB-best 29 saves in a row this year while posting a 2.68 ERA and 1.21 WHIP in 40.1 innings with 39 strikeouts.
