Joel Sherman of the New York Post reports that Yoenis Cespedes will be starting at first base today on his rehab assignment with the GCL Mets.

Cespedes will apparently have minor league rovers watch him play the position to report back to the front office in NY whether or not this experiment should continue at the MLB level.

The idea of this came up when the Cespedes broached it to the team a week ago, citing that it could help him take pressure off of his legs. He is currently in the second year of a four-year, $110 million contract he signed during the 2016 offseason.

The 32-year old is expected to return to the team on Friday as the team’s DH.
