New York Mets outfielder Yoenis Cespedes is scheduled to undergo surgery on his left heel later this month, as per Anthony DiComo of MLB.com.

Cespedes, 33, underwent decalcification surgery on his right heel on August 1. He was scheduled to have the same procedure done on his other heel on Tuesday, but that’s now been pushed back.

As per DiComo, Cespedes’ surgery “has been delayed a few days due to a scheduling conflict”, adding that “it should still be done by the end of this month, keeping him on track to begin baseball activities around late February/early March”.

After hitting the disabled list with a right hip flexor strain in May, the 33-year-old was activated on July 20 against the Yankees. After leaving the game early, Cespedes spent a few days weighing his options and was then placed on the DL again, with twin heel calcifications.

Cespedes has a .282/.346/.543 slash line with 74 home runs and 201 runs batted in through 308 games with the Mets but has played in just 120 games since the start of the 2017 season.

When healthy, Yoenis Cespedes is undoubtedly a superstar. But after a string of injuries like this, one has to wonder whether he’ll ever be the same player again.
