Yoenis Cespedes continued to flex his muscle and power the New York Mets offense on Sunday, going 2-for-4 with a solo home run in a 4-3 win over the San Diego Padres.
Petco Park can be a death knell for sluggers, but it couldn’t contain Cespedes who went 5-for-18 with four walks, three home runs, and five RBI during the four game series.
His 11 home runs are now tied for the second-most in the National League and his 30 RBI and .701 slugging percentage both rank number one in the NL.
For the season, Cespedes is batting .299 with a .376 on-base percentage and a 1.077 OPS. He is crushing left-handed pitchers, posting a .385/.579/.923 triple slash against them in 19 plate appearances.
Cespedes, 30, signed a three-year, $75 million dollar contract with the Mets during the offseason that includes an opt-out after this season.
So far he is on pace for blowing last year’s career best season out of the water. His 184 OPS+ and 183 wRC+ are at career highs and he’s at a .449 wOBA with a .290 BABIP.
We could be witnessing one of the greatest offensive seasons in Mets franchise history if he continues to keep this pace up. The final raw numbers if you project this out are jaw-dropping.
