The New York Mets snapped their three game losing streak and defeated the San Francisco Giants by a score of 9-5 this evening at AT&T Park.

Pitching

The veteran right-hander Bartolo Colon started for the Mets and gave them a steady performance, holding the Giants to just a pair of runs while scattering nine hits and a walk. Colon struck out five in the game and lowered his ERA to 3.36 for the season.

Rookie Josh Smoker got the last two outs in the seventh and picked up his first MLB strikeout.

In the eighth inning, Hansel Robles walked two batters before he got the hook, making way for Addison Reed.  However Reed walked Hunter Pence to load the bases before Eduardo Nunez stroked a two-run double. Pence would come around to score on a groundout for the Giants’ fifth and final run.

Offense

Yoenis Cespedes was the star of the game, going 3-for-5, clubbing two home runs and driving in three runs. Both shots were absolute bombs and Cespedes now has 24 homers for the season.

Alejandro De Aza also blasted a homer for the Mets, a three-run shot off Jake Peavy in the sixth. Asdrubal Cabrera, Neil Walker and Justin Ruggiano each contributed two-hit games.

Here’s the good news, the Mets were 5-for-9 with runners in scoring position as they pounded out 13 hits on the night.
