Mets outfielder Yoenis Cespedes took the next step in his rehab, playing left field and batting second Tuesday afternoon for the Gulf Coast League Mets.

Cespedes, 32, played in a simulated game Monday in Port St. Lucie, where he batted seven times and hit two home runs. He also played five innings in the field.

But today, Cespedes played seven innings in left field and went 1-for-4 at the dish for the GCL Mets and did not strike out.

The plan for Cespedes is to continue rehabbing this week and if all goes well, a return to the bigs for the Mets series with the Yankees this weekend is likely.

We will keep you up to date for what the next step in Cespedes’s rehab assignment is.
