Triple-A Syracuse

After a rough week, the Syracuse Mets tied a six-game series against Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. They scored 27 runs but gave up 31. Despite the high number of runs scored, six batters hit under the Mendoza line, including Ryan Clifford who only got one hit across the six games.

Clifford went hitless across his last five games going 0-for-21, bringing his season slash line down to .215/.290/.405/.695. This is coming off one of the hottest stretches of his season, a bit of a trend this year. Both months Clifford has had roughly a week where he makes incredible contact and dominates, followed by multiple weeks where he cannot buy a hit. His 72.4% zone-contact rate is in the 2nd percentile, his 35.8% whiff rate is in the 5th percentile, and his 38.1% strikeout rate is in the 1st percentile. Some hitters with his power can survive with poor contact rates but they can draw walks, and Clifford’s 9.7% walk rate is in the 26th percentile.

Christian Pache was the only one to hit for some power with his .440 SLG—two doubles and home run—but he ran only a .290 OBP this week as his bat cools down.

Nick Morabito struggled heavily to get hits this week. He did hit the ball hard, but he struggled to make contact and chased significantly more than usual. It is possible he is trying to work through stuff to increase his power output, as that is likely keeping him from being major league ready.

On the pitching side, Jack Wenninger delivered one strong start, where he struck out seven in five innings, and a second start where he could not make it out of the third inning, walking four and hitting a batter. His command has been a struggle this year, and he regularly loses velocity throughout outings. With his subpar fastball shape, he needs to sit around 95-96 for it to be effective.

Zach Thornton pitched very well in his start, striking out nine batters over six innings—his second outing in a row going six innings on a low pitch count. Thornton fills the zone, and even though his stuff is not particularly strong, when he is working his best, he can attack the shadow of the zone. He has a similar pitch mix to David Peterson but with better command. Thornton has struggled with giving up too much hard contact, as he can leave the ball over the heart of the zone too often. Even in his last game, he gave up too many hard-hit balls on pitches down the middle.

Jonah Tong had the worst start of his season as he was unable to make it out of the second inning. He struggled with his command, he struggled to get horizontal break with his cutter, and he gave up two home runs. One thing to watch with Tong is that he seems to have developed a new slider and has started to introduce it over the last two appearances and may have some promise.

Anderson Severino continues to shine and recently joined the Mets taxi squad, though he did not join the roster. Matt Turner made his Syracuse debut and struck out two in 1 2/3 innings pitched. Dan Hammer looks like he should be in the majors. The Syracuse Mets bullpen overall has been strong recently.

Double-A Binghamton

The Rumble Ponies only won two games but they finally began to score some runs, scoring at least three runs in every game save one. On the offensive side:

Jacob Reimer had a strong week, slashing .333/.435/.778/1.213. Since April 22, he has looked like how he was expected to look going into the season. If he continues this, he could force his way up to Syracuse soon.

Chris Suero also had a very strong week, slashing .333/.455/.667/1.122 with two home runs.

R.J.
While they did not hit much, walks were the game of the Brooklyn Cyclones this week. In their 7-0 victory they walked 10 times. On the pitching side:

The St. Lucie Mets lost their first four games of the week but rebounded to win the last two. The offense is almost an even split between red-hot and ice-cold batters.

Elian Peña has struggled in May, slashing only .180/.317/.280/.597. He only has two extra-base hits this month. He is still making above-average contact, but not plus contact like he was in April. He still is not hitting the ball hard consistently, and there could be concerns that his low swing rate is more passive than plate discipline.

Randy Guzman continues to hit the ball hard, but his contact rate has taken a big dip in May. He is chasing and whiffing at a much higher rate and is not drawing enough walks. He still hits the ball harder than almost anyone else, but he will need to fix some of the holes in his game going forward, evident by his .188 AVG and .438 SLG across the last week.

Catcher Julio Zayas has the best OPS this week for the St. Lucie Mets, slashing .333/.474/.733/1.207 with two home runs.

AJ Salgado was the St. Lucie Mets second best hitter this week, slashing .421/.450/.526/.976. He showed his best exit velocities of the season while running plus contact rates in the zone. He could be a name to watch if he can keep this up.

Jose Chirinos continues his strong season, throwing just one out shy of a quality start and securing the win while working around a fielding error by Elian Peña.

The Mets had two players on the rehab end playing for St. Lucie this week.

Jared Young began his rehab stint with a hit in a walk in seven plate appearances and will be heading to Syracuse soon.

Adbert Alzolay is working his way back from elbow surgery and had one rough appearance where he gave up two runs and another that was scoreless. He is struggling to get whiffs, but these are also the first professional innings he has thrown in roughly two years.

FCL Mets

The FCL Mets offense carried the team to three wins while the pitching struggled.

Yovanny Rodriguez has started the year strong, slashing .294/.351/.735/1.086. He is a strong defensive catcher and any ability to hit could turn him into a future backup catcher.

Jeremy Rodriguez, whom the Mets acquired in the trade for Tommy Pham, is slashing .300/.382/.467/.849 to start the season while repeating rookie ball.

Vladi Gomez has been the Mets’ hottest bat, slashing .350/.536/.600/1.136.

Players of the Week

Offense – Jacob Reimer, Syracuse

When A.J. Ewing graduates, Reimer may be the best prospect in the Mets’ farm system. He looks to have truly broken out over the last few weeks, showing off his plus hit tool and plus power. He could force his way to Syracuse soon, and from there, he is only a train ride away from the majors.

Pitching – Zach Thornton, P Syracuse

Zach Thornton had his best start of the season, throwing six scoreless innings with nine strikeouts and only one walk. He throws strikes, and while too many of them still bleed over the heart of the plate, he is able to attack the shadow of the zone more than anyone in the Mets system. Thornton also has a knack for getting called strikes on the edge of the zone. He still projects to be more of a back-end starter or a reliever, but if the Mets decide they want to go with a long-term solution to replace Clay Holmes that is not currently in the majors, he could be an option.

Double-A Binghamton: @ Richmond

High-A Brooklyn: vs. Hudson Valley

The Syracuse offense solidly started the day, scoring three runs in the first six innings. In the field, Morabito made a spectacular catch in center field in the second inning, robbing a would-be two-run home run. In the top of the sixth, Hernánez singled in a run to give the team a 3-2 lead heading into the later innings. However, after that run, the Mets (Triple-A) would fail to score for the remainder of the contest, going just 2-for-11 with RISP.

As previously mentioned, Reimer stole the show for Binghamton in Sunday’s win. The third baseman did everything at the plate, showing off his power, speed, and plate discipline, which have been an issue in the first stretch of the season. His sixth-inning, three-run home run proved to be the difference in the game.
Sunday’s game began dreadfully for the Rumble Ponies’ pitching staff.
It is hard to find many positives in Brooklyn’s (High-A) offensive performance on Sunday, as has been the case the entire season. Accumulating just four hits while going 1-for-12 with RISP resulted in yet another losing effort for a team that now sits 18 games below .500.

The Mets (Single-A) pitching staff was superb on Sunday. 19-year-old Carreno continued his excellent beginning to the season, lowering his ERA to 1.93 on the season in 28.0 IP with 42 strikeouts. The other 19-year-old Obispo matched Correndo’s level of play, going three scoreless innings, lowering his ERA to 2.45, while only walking one. Hitters are batting just .209 off the young pitcher; if he can keep the walks down, he will continue to rise in the prospect rankings.

The New York Mets’ farm system saw a mixed bag of results on Saturday night, splitting their four games into a 2-2 record.

Xzavion Curry made his debut within the organization, which feels more notable now than before in light of the Clay Holmes injury. The Binghamton Rumble Ponies (Double-A) and Brooklyn Cyclones (High-A) struggled at the plate again, as both continue to be offensive liabilities.

Down in St. Lucie (Single-A), the Mets won a high-scoring affair that saw Randy Guzman hit yet another homer, continuing to show incredible power.

Curry made his debut in the Mets’ system for the Mets, and turned in five solid innings. As the starting pitching depth of the big league club continues to be tested, look for the Syracuse Mets to see a few more veteran names starting games for them than before.

Pintaro, a 40-man roster arm, turned in two scoreless innings. Another 40-man arm, Ross, who was called up on the last day of the 2025 season, continued to impress in his return from the injured list.

The hitting was not good for the Rumble Ponies on Saturday night. The trio of Lorusso, Ramos, and Suero recorded 10 total bases. The other six players in the Binghamton lineup recorded no total bases. The three of them were not enough to overcome the woes of the rest of their lineup, but it did not matter much considering how awful the pitching staff was.

Suero continues to impress and is making a case to be a top-10 prospect in the Mets’ system after the recent graduations of a handful of top names.

The Cyclones’ bats were poor again on Saturday night, but they were able to give a nice threat to the Emperors in the ninth inning. Voit doubled in the ninth and took third on a wild pitch, but was stranded on third as Brooklyn was shut out again.

The Cyclones have scored just 121 runs over their first 37 games, by far the worst mark in all of High-A baseball.

Jose Chirinos has become the go-to starter for the Mets on Saturdays, and he has performed as such of late. He kept his season ERA under the 3.00 mark, but struggled more than he has lately. Most impressive was his control, not walking a single batter he faced, and he has now gone two straight starts without issuing a walk.

A pair of minor league veterans, Armbruester and Alzolay, followed Chirinos as they built up their young seasons.

Randy Guzman punished a baseball for his eighth homer of the season, tops on this Mets team. The Mets’ bats were alive and well in the first inning, scoring five of their seven runs and providing an early lead that they would not look back from.

Syracuse had three hits on Thursday and reached base eight times. Since he seemed to turn it around in May, Ryan Clifford has struggled, striking out ten times in his last 14 at-bats.

Jonah Tong had his shortest outing of the 2026 season, not getting out of the second inning and throwing three wild pitches. While his defense didn’t help him, opening the game with an error, Tong has continued to struggle with his control in 2026. Tong has already walked 24 batters this year after walking 47 in all of 2025. Hammer had a great bounce-back outing after two consecutive appearances allowing a run.

Triple-A Syracuse

The Syracuse Mets followed up their stellar series against Lehigh Valley with a dud against the Rochester Red Wings, losing four of six games, including the final three of the series. The Mets are still above .500 at 20-18, good for third place in the International League East division.

Ryan Clifford was a major bright spot on offense, going 9-for-22 with a pair of home runs. Clifford also added a double, a triple, two walks and a stolen base. After a slow start to the year, Clifford has his OPS at an even .800.

Jackson Cluff also hit a pair of home runs despite going just 3-for-17 in the series. Like Clifford, Cluff also walked twice and stole a base. It’s been a struggle, as he has just a .549 OPS this season.

Despite a week where he cooled off from his hot start, A.J. Ewing was quickly promoted to the majors and should be in the MLB team’s starting lineup Tuesday.

Jack Wenninger continued his Triple-A dominance with another fantastic start on the mound. Wenninger tossed six scoreless innings, allowing just two hits and three walks with five strikeouts. The 24-year-old has been sensational as he has a 1.27 ERA in six starts.

Jonah Tong also impressed on the mound, allowing two runs over five innings with eight strikeouts. Tong allowed two hits and four walks, and he now owns a 4.46 ERA in eight starts as he continues to find his footing.

He soared past that number, going 3-for-10 with two doubles, a home run, four walks and four stolen bases. Suero is hitting just .175 this year, but his eye and his power have his OPS at a solid .802.

Lorusso went 5-for-18 with a triple, not drawing any walks, while Parada went 4-for-14 with no extra base hits and one walk.
High-A Brooklyn

Just like Binghamton, the Brooklyn Cyclones’ fortunes have yet to reverse as they also dropped five games against the Bowling Green Hot Rods. The Cyclones are just 8-24 and also in dead last in the South Atlantic League North division.

Despite the dreadful week and entire season, the Cyclones received some impressive offensive performances in this series. Ronald Hernandez led the way by going 5-for-18 with three homers. He drove in four runs and added a walk. Hernandez’s strong week propelled his OPS for the year to .803.

Perozo’s seven hits led the team and he now has an even .700 OPS.

Sam Biller played in just four games, but he went 6-for-12 with a double, a walk and two stolen bases. Biller has mostly struggled this year, owning a .576 OPS.

Miller allowed two runs in five innings while striking out seven and walking no one. Miller’s ERA through his one start is 3.60.

Channing Austin allowed two runs in 4 1/3 innings, also allowing nine baserunners, but his swing-and-miss stuff led to 10 strikeouts out of the 13 outs he recorded.
Low-A St. Lucie

The St. Lucie Mets dropped four of six games in their series against the Lakeland Flying Tigers. The Mets are now 14-19 and in third place in the Florida State League East division.

Benson went 6-for-19 with five extra-base hits (two doubles, two triples, one home run). He also walked twice and stole a base. Benson’s excellent start to the season has his OPS at .961.

Elian Peña had a solid week, only going 5-for-21 but recording a home run, three walks and a stolen base. Peña also drove in four runs, which led the team. His OPS for the year is at .833.

Chase Meggers looked good at the plate, going 6-for-19 just like JT Benson. Unlike Benson, Meggers only had one extra-base hit (a double). He drove in three runs and walked once, raising his OPS to .612.

Jose Chirinos had an excellent start on the mound, allowing one run in six innings. Chirinos allowed four hits, no walks and struck out two. In six appearances (five starts) for St. Lucie, he owns a 2.52 ERA.

Frank Camarillo also stood out, allowing two runs in five innings with five strikeouts. Camarillo has struggled more than Chirinos this year, owning a 4.44 ERA in six starts.

Daviel Hurtado made one start and one relief appearance, his first appearances of the year. He tossed four innings across the two games, allowing just a run on two hits and striking out eight. His ERA through two games is 2.25.

FCL Mets

The Florida Complex League season is underway, and the FCL Mets are 2-5 through their first seven games. They are in last place in the FCL East division.

Catcher Yovanny Rodriguez is off to a fantastic start to the season. Through seven games, he is 9-for-27 with four home runs and nine RBIs, as well as three walks and a stolen base. Rodriguez’s OPS in the early going is 1.108.

Pitcher Camden Lohman has looked great through two starts, allowing two unearned runs in 7 2/3 innings with 12 strikeouts. These two starts are the first two of Lohman’s professional career.

Players of the Week

Offense – Ryan Clifford, 1B/LF/RF

Ryan Clifford’s status within the Mets organization became much more important when the team decided to let Pete Alonso walk. Clifford may be the team’s first baseman of the future, and he showcased this past week why the Mets might view him that way. Even with a slow start to the year, Clifford is tied for the Mets minor league lead in home runs.

Pitching – Jack Wenninger, P Syracuse

Jack Wenninger is a budding superstar, coming off a 2025 season in which he recorded a 2.92 ERA in 26 starts with Double-A Binghamton. He has a 1.27 ERA to start 2026 with Triple-A Syracuse, and it’s fair to say he’s pushing into the upper echelon of Mets pitching prospects that includes Jonah Tong.

The Syracuse (Triple-A) offense had a solid day as a team, especially productive in the power category with three home runs, a triple, and a double. However, they fell short with RISP, going just 1-for-6, leaving five on base.

It was not a good performance from the Mets’ (Triple-A) pitching staff on Sunday, allowing 12 hits, eight earned runs, and seven walks. After a solid five innings from Curry, things fell apart from there, with the only saving grace being Mets’ 17th ranked prospect Ross.
