The other day I referred to a couple of reports that said the Mets were still looking to unload Ramon Castro and possibly replace him with Pudge Rodriguez.
Castro’s name was also mentioned quite frequently around the time of the Winter Meetings in Las Vegas.
I wonder if the talk is having a little bit of a motivational effect on Castro who showed up to camp lighter and in his best shape in years.
Castro is batting .286 this spring and yesterday he hit his second homerun of the spring while raising his RBI total to six.
Sure, it’s still early and there’s a lot of spring games left to play, but it looks like Castro is making a whole-hearted attempt to improve upon last year’s dismal season.
While all the negative talk about last season revolves mostly around Luis Castillo, Castro also had his moments too.
It seems like both of them came to camp ready to put the ghosts of last season behind them.
