Going into the 2019 season, the New York Mets brought in several depth options for the outfield.
Keon Broxton was acquired from the Milwaukee Brewers and broke camp with the major league squad, while veterans Rajai Davis, Rymer Liriano, Gregor Blanco and Carlos Gomez began the year with Triple-A Syracuse.
Broxton, 29 tomorrow, was seen as a solid defender with some pop in his bat that could work as a platoon piece with Juan Lagares in center, or as a fourth outfielder for the big league club.
However, Broxton has struggled mightily, hitting a meager .156/.224/.178 in 49 plate appearances.
Broxton isn’t the only Mets player struggling offensively. Take a look at this tweet from MetsMerized’s Jack Hendon, who outlines how deep the team’s struggles have been as of late:

The Mets need to inject some life into their offense. Of the outfielders the team brought in this winter, Gomez has been scorching hot as of late.
Over his last eight games, Gomez is hitting .394/.417/.667 with three doubles, two home runs and 10 RBI.
Broxton is not cutting it, so the Mets are going to have to determine what they are going to do with him sooner or later. Should they replace him, it would have to be with another outfielder since the Mets are thin in that category in the majors.
Jed Lowrie is likely to come back soon and rejoin the big league squad as well. Bringing up Gomez along with Lowrie could give them two fresh bats to hopefully jump start the offense.
Gomez has performed thus far, and while he is in the latter stages of his career, he could be a valuable fourth outfielder while providing some pop off the bench.
With Brandon Nimmo struggling as well, it could give the Mets a new face to spell the skidding outfielder and let him clear his mind.
