Carlos Carrasco departed Wednesday afternoon’s start with an undisclosed injury after pitching just 2 1/3 innings.

The Mets later announced Carrasco departed the start with lower back tightness.

Before leaving the game in the third inning, Carrasco struggled. He allowed five runs on four hits and two walks and a hit by pitch. Of note, he allowed three home runs, included two to slugger Yordan Alvarez.

Carrasco’s final batter on the day was a walk to Kyle Tucker. Before being removed from the game, he threw his final pitch at just 89 miles per hour. His overall decreased velocity in limited action today is a sign of concern, although it’s likely we won’t know for a bit what exactly Carrasco is dealing with.

Should Carrasco need to be placed on the injured list, he will join a long list of Met starters to have already hit the IL this year; Jacob deGrom, Max Scherzer, and Tylor Megill are all currently sidelined from the rotation dealing with injuries of their own.
