Are you ready for a mid-00s Mets reunion? Because I sure am.
Carlos Beltran spoke to ESPN’s Marly Rivera about how he is planning to bring back many former Mets to come down to Spring Training and help out. He did not specify if this solely meant former Mets that he played with — but I assume that he was talking in general.
It is likely safe to say though that his former teammates will become familiar Mets faces once again. David Wright is a no-brainer, as he has already been around this Mets team. Jose Reyes could be too, especially as he not only played with Beltran but played with many on this current Mets roster as well. Beltran also named Carlos Delgado as someone who reached out to him via text once he got the Mets gig, so one could assume that that is another face we can see down in Port St. Lucie. Pedro Martinez also played with Beltran and texted him congratulations, so I’ll just throw that name out there as well.
Some other noteable Mets that Beltran played with? Tom Glavine, who has not been a total stranger to the Mets. Endy Chavez, who is still part of the Mets organization as a coach for the Brooklyn Cyclones. And Mike Piazza, who arguably is involved in the Mets with his former team.
It’s smart of Beltran to utilize his network to bring in former teammates who can both teach and further motivate this young Mets roster. Who better to learn from than someone who has literally been in your shoes?
The above names are just a possibility of some faces that we can see down in Port St. Lucie this year. As we find out confirmation, we will keep you posted. Stay tuned!
