Kirk Nieuwenhuis is continues to mash the ball and put up solid numbers for Class AA Binghamton this season. Captain Kirk is batting .306 with 14 home runs and 53 RBI, and is currently is leading the league in doubles (29), runs scored (69) and extra-base hits (45), and ranks second in total bases with 170.

He has already been selected to represent the Eastern Division at the 2010 Eastern League All-Star Game on Wednesday night in Harrisburg.

The Mets’ 2008 third round pick continues to climb up all of the major prospect rankings and is now one of the team’s most prized prospects.

Yesterday, Kirk Nieuwenhuis was named the Eastern League Player of the Week for the week ending July 11th.

He had a tremendous week for the B-Mets, batting .469 (15-for-32) with six doubles, two home runs, nine runs scored, six RBI, two walks and a .844 slugging percentage over seven games. Nice!

Kirk had multiple hits in five of the seven games he played including going 4-for-4 with one double, three RBI and three runs scored in a win Tuesday night. He currently has a nine-game hitting streak for the B-Mets during which he is batting .524 with 11 doubles and 14 runs scored.

Keep an eye on Captain Kirk, I’m sure it won’t be long until the 23 year old outfielder is beamed up to Buffalo.
