The Mets announced that they have optioned IF Eric Campbell and RP Erik Goeddel to Triple-A Las Vegas, and reassigned 2B Daniel Muno, SS Matt Reynolds, C Johnny Monell and RP Zack Thornton.

Zack Wheeler, Bobby Parnell, Josh Edgin, and Vic Black will all be placed on the 15-day DL on Sunday and backdated accordingly for each player.

Relievers Buddy Carlyle and Sean Gilmartin have made the team and will be part of an eight man bullpen.

Daniel Murphy will be your Opening Day second baseman, and the Mets four man bench will include C Anthony Recker, IF Ruben Tejada, OF John Mayberry Jr. and OF Kirk Nieuwenhuis.

Terry Collins reiterated that this was necessary to do because our starting pitchers have not been stretched out enough.

April 3

Many expected Eric Campbell to make the Mets Opening Day roster, but it’s possible that he doesn’t make the cut.

According to Adam Rubin of ESPN NY, the Mets are weighing the idea of only having four bench players and leaving Campbell off the roster.

Campbell is batting .241 this spring, but he has two home runs and 9 RBI in 54 At-bats.

This move would allow the Mets to carry eight relievers, and it would prevent them from potentially losing reliever Buddy Carlye.

Calryle can opt out of his minor league contract if he doesn’t make the team out of Spring Training.

Carlyle had a 1.45 ERA last year in 27 appearances, and he has been solid this spring. He has allowed only two runs in 9.1 innings pitched
