The Mets have announced the corresponding roster move to add Cameron Maybin to the active roster as starting pitcher Taijuan Walker is heading to the injured list. Along with Walker, Stephen Tarpley and Sam McWilliams, who were both with the Syracuse Mets, are heading to the IL as well.

Tarpley and McWilliams were placed on the COVID injured list according to Newsday‘s Tim Healey. Players on the COVID IL do not count against the 40-man roster, which opened up a spot for Maybin.

The New York Mets made a trade to acquire Cameron Maybin yesterday and have wasted not time activating the 34-year-old outfielder. Maybin will not only be starting in left field tonight, but he will also be batting third in the lineup, according to manager Luis Rojas.

For his career, Maybin has gone 3-for-6 against Atlanta Braves starting pitcher Charlie Morton.

Pete Alonso is going to get a day off for the first time this year, as the first baseman has started each of the Mets 36 games. Dominic Smith will get his first start of the season in the infield, taking Alonso’s spot at first.

It is still unclear what the corresponding roster move was to add Maybin, we will update this as soon as the information is made available.
