Nick Cafardo of the Boston Globe took a look at five teams that need to make a move and he prominently tabs the Mets and had some interesting things to say about them.

“Mets fans have waited since 2006 for a playoff team. The Mets are competing with the Cubs, Diamondbacks, Giants, and Braves for the second wild-card spot.”

“With one of the best young staffs in baseball, they have pitching to trade for hitting. Jon Niese is trade bait and he could help a lot of teams.”

Cafardo points out that the Mets still have a 29th ranked offense – and it’s been that bad for three years now – and that they need an impact bat

He points out free agent-to-be Justin Upton, who could be available as the Padres start looking towards next season.

However, he says Troy Tulowitzki is the player the Mets should really be targeting, and I’m not sure I agree with that.

Other trade targets he mentions for the Mets are Carlos Gonzalez and the Athletics outfielder Josh Reddick and C/1B Stephen Vogt.

Marlins first baseman/outfielder Michael Morse is back and hitting again, and Cafardo opines whether the  Mets could be tempted. Morse has about $3 million owed to him this season and $8.5 million for 2016.

Not sure Morse or Vogt  would be an ideal fit, but Reddick is certainly intriguing and Prado could be a solid addition.
