Game Summary

With Pelfrey’s best and longest start going into the eighth inning, the Mets looked to beat their rivals, but the implosion of the bullpen and the faltering of Mets late-inning runs, cost him a win. Mets lose 5-2.

Game Notes

Mike Pelfrey pitched like he was finally back in form. Pelfrey kept the Phillies to just one run till he found himself in trouble in the eighth after Rollins got a base hit and a stolen base. Pelfrey was pulled after 7.2 innings giving up two runs on four hits, no walks, and six strikeouts. He went further into the game as I expected as he pitched 116 pitches. He walks away with a no decision and his ERA sits at a high 5.00.

The bullpen only had to get one out prevent the Phillies from tying it up. Rollins was on second when Pelfrey left and Mike O’Connor was brought in to face the lefty, Utley, but he got an RBI single up the middle. O’Connor fails to get his one out. Izzy came in to get the out, but just walked Polanco, his only batter. Izzy was pulled and Tim Byrdak was put in. He quickly gave up an RBI double to Howard, giving the Phillies the lead.He gave up a hit, but struck out the next batter. Thayer was brought in and pitched an inning, but gave up two hits and another run to add to the Phillies lead.

Mets offense got two runs early but were non existing in the late innings. With another RBI single coming from Justin Turner in the first inning and Jason Bay took time out from striking out to get an RBI in the third inning.

Jose Reyes two hits, double, two runs, two stolen bases. Continues his good season.
Nick Evans goes 0-3, still looking for his first hit of the season.
Mets strikeout 11 times in the game, and walked none. Paulino had a throwing error as well.
