Mets outfielder Jay Bruce, who has been limited to just 62 games this year due to a right hip strain, will soon begin a rehab assignment, according to Mike Puma of the New York Post.
Bruce, 31, signed a three-year deal with the Mets this offseason and has thus far been a disappointment.
Over those 62 games, he has hit just .212/.292/.321 with three home runs and 17 RBI while being worth -1.2 bWAR.
Bruce is one year removed from launching 36 home runs, but this year, his success has vanished. Early on in the season, he was hampered by plantar fasciitis and then the subsequent hip issue.
When he returns, he will likely play outfield and first base according to manager Mickey Callaway.
