The Mets (69-65) were defeated by the Miami Marlins (68-66) by a score of 6-4 tonight at Citi Field.

Pitching:

Jacob deGrom, starting on an extra three days of rest tonight, did not bring his A-game, allowing three runs on six hits, while walking four and striking out three.

DeGrom was seen waving for trainer Ray Ramirez to follow him into the clubhouse after leaving the game in the fifth inning. It just never ends.

Josh Smoker had a nice sixth, but surrendered a three-run bomb to Christian Yelich in the seventh to bust the game wide open.

Fernando Salas pitched the seventh in his Mets debut and looked good, tossing a clean inning in relief of Smoker.

Offense:

The Mets had strung together some hits early, but it wasn’t until the sixth when Jay Bruce launched a solo shot to get the Mets on the board.

In the bottom of the eighth, Bruce who had struggled so mightily before this series, drove in another run, his second of the game.

The Mets looked to have some more things cooking in the eighth with the bases loaded, but couldn’t manage to get within reach of the Fish.

In the ninth inning, the white hot Asdrubal Cabrera launched his 18th homer of the year off Fernando Rodney to cut the Marlins lead down to 6-4, but it would be too little too late as the Marlins sealed the win.

On deck:

The Mets open up a three-game series against the Washington Nationals tomorrow night at Citi Field. Noah Syndergaard (12-7, 2.55 ERA) takes on A.J. Cole (0-1, 4.97 ERA). First pitch is at 7:10 PM.
