Tracy Ringolsby of the Rocky Mountain News is reporting that the agents for for free agent closer, Brian Fuentes have made a contract proposal to the New York Mets.
The agents for Rockies closer and free agent Brian Fuentes reportedly put a four-year, $44 million proposal on the table to the Mets. Executives with Cleveland and St. Louis indicated they would be interested only in a one-year or two-year deal.
I would prefer to see a 3-year deal with an option for a fourth year, but if this is what it would take to secure Brian Fuentes and move on to the other issues that the Mets must tackle this off season, then so be it.
Fuentes racked up 30 saves last season with a very impressive 2.73 ERA pitching in the hitter friendly Coors Field. In 62 innings pitched he struck out a whopping 82 batters. In the last four seasons, he has accumulated 111 saves and owns a 2.97 ERA.
