Originally acquired in the August trade deadline, Canha produced an impressive .287/.373/.427/.800 line in the final months with Milwaukee, coming up big in clutch moments. He finished the 2023 campaign with 114 hits, 25 doubles, 11 home runs and 62 RBIs.

A journeyman, the 35-year-old can play all outfield positions and first base. Before signing the two-year deal with the Mets in the 2021 offseason, Canha spent his entire career with the Oakland Athletics. He had an $11.5 million option, which the Tigers will now pick up with the trade.

The Brewers receive a relief pitcher in return who split his time last season between Class-A Michigan and Double-A Erie in the Tigers organization. He was a 15th-round selection in the 2021 MLB Draft out of  St. Edward’s University and has quickly ascended through the minor league ranks.

Holub finished the 2022 campaign with a 3.03 ERA and eight saves, holding hitters to a .226 batting average in 65 ⅓ innings pitched. Between both levels, he amassed 76 strikeouts.
